Fatima Jinnah

Fatima Jinnah (Urdu: فاطمہ جناح‎; 30 July 1893 – 9 July 1967) was a Pakistani dental surgeon, biographer, states woman and one of the leading founders of Pakistan.

After obtaining a dental degree from University of Calcutta, she became a close associate and an adviser to her older brother Muhammad Ali Jinnah who latter became the first Governor General of Pakistan. A strong critic of the British Raj, she emerged as a strong advocate of the two nation theory and a leading member of the All-India Muslim League. After the independence of Pakistan, Jinnah co-founded the Pakistan Women's Association which significantly played an integral role in the settlement of the migrants in the newly formed country. After the death of her brother, she continued to remain a prominent philanthropist, but did not remain politically active until 1965 when she participated in the presidential election against military dictator Ayub Khan, only to lose the primary because of election rigging by the military.

Havildar Lalak Jan

He was born on 1 Apr 1967. He was enlisted in the Army on 10 December 1984. He was serving in Northern Light Infantry Regiment when skirmishes broke out in Kargil in 1999. Havildar Lalak Jan of the Northern Light Infantry Regiment fought from the forefront to thwart heavy Indian attacks. He volunteered himself to be deployed on the front positions located at the jagged peak in May 1999. Havildar Lalak Jan repulsed back many aggressive ventures by the enemy and imposed colossal losses on them. On 7 July 1999, Havildar Lalak Jan sustained serious injuries as enemies pounded the area with heavy mortar shells. But despite being injured, he retained his position and frustrated the Indian assault. Due to severe injuries he embraced martyrdom.

Captain Karnal Sher Khan

He was born on 1 January 1970. He was commissioned in the Army on 14 October 1994. Captain Karnal Sher Khan emerged as the symbol of mettle and courage during the Kargil conflict on the Line of Control. He set personal examples of bravery and inflicted heavy losses on the enemy. He defended the five strategic posts, which he established with his jawans at the height of 17,000 feet at Gultary, and repulsed many Indian attacks. After many abortive attempts, the Indians on 5 July 1999 ringed the posts of Captain Karnal Sher Khan with the help of two battalions and unleashed heavy mortar fire and managed to capture some part of one of his posts. Despite facing all odds, he led a counter-attack and re-captured the lost parts of his post. But during the course, he was hit by the machine-gun fire and embraced ‘SHAHADAT’ at the same post.

Lance Naik Muhammad Mahfuz

He was born on 25 October 1944 in Pind Malikan (now Mahfuzabad), Rawalpindi district. He was enlisted in the Army on 25 October 1962. Serving in ‘A’ Company of 15 Punjab Regiment when war broke out in 1971, Lance Naik Muhammad Mahfuz was deployed on the Wagha-Attari Sector where his company was pinned down by unceasing frontal and crossfire from automatic weapons. Although his machine gun was destroyed by an enemy shell, Muhammad Mahfuz advanced towards an enemy bunker whose automatic fire had inflicted heavy casualties. Even though wounded in both legs by shell splinters, when he reached the bunker he stood up and pounced on the enemy, in the encounter he was hit with a bayonet. Although unarmed, he got hold of the enemy and did another bayonet strangling with him. Due to serious injuries he embraced martyrdom on the night of 17 December 1971.

Ghulam Farid Sabri

Ghulam Farid Sabri (1930 - April 5, 1994) was a major Qawwali singer, and a leading member of the Sabri Brothers, a leading qawwali group.

He was born in Kalyana, a village in the district of Rohtak in East Punjab, British India in 1930. His family's musical lineage stretches back several centuries, to the age of the Mughal emperors. His family claims direct descent from Mian Tansen, the legendary musician of the court of Akbar the Great. Mehboob Baksh Ranji Ali Rang, his paternal grandfather, was a master musician of his time;Baqar Hussein Khan, his maternal grandfather, was a unique sitarist. His family belongs to the Sabriyya order of Sufism, hence the surname Sabri.

Rauf Khalid

rest in peaceAbdul Rauf Khalid (Urdu: عبدالرؤف خالد‎; born 19 December 1957, Peshawar – died 24 November 2011) was a Pakistani actor, filmmaker and television writer/director. An ex-serviceman and bureaucrat, he worked in films and television plays after attending Islamia College, Peshawar.

Career

1989: he wrote and partially directed PTV's thriller, Madaar, a seven-episode serial exposing drug trafficking, telecast from Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV).

1991: he wrote Guest House, a 52-episode comedy series that turned out to be a popular comedy series for PTV.

1994: Khalid directed Angar Wadi, a 15-episode serial for which he was an actor and a producer apart from writing it.

1998: Khalid made Laag, a 27-episodes serial (written, directed, produced and acted).

2003: Khalid released his debut film Laaj as (writer, director, producer and actor), although it reportedly did poorly at the box office. Laaj won 12 Bolan Awards, 14 Graduate Awards, 4 National Film Awards and the Luxstyle Award.

2007: Khalid established a college of TV & Film Direction in Lok Virsa Shakrparian Islamabad. He was the chairman of National Institute of Cultural Studies.

2008: Khalid made his third television serial (Mishaal), for which he served as writer, director and producer.

Art

His paintings have been exhibited in the World Fineart Gallery New York and the Omma Art Gallery in Crete Greece.

Death

Rauf Khalid died on 24 November 2011, aged 53, in a traffic accident near Sheikhupura as he was coming to Islamabad from Lahore via motorway.

Latif Kapadia

 Latif Kapadia (Urdu: لطيف کپاڈیا‎) was a Pakistani stage and television actor. Latif Kapadia was born on March 27, 1934, in Nasik, Maharashtra, in British India. At the age of 13, Latif Kapadia migrated to Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. He is considered as one of the famous actors of Pakistan television.

Career


Latif started his career as a stage actor. He was initiated into acting in 1953 by a theatre-loving couple, Meherji and Pervaiz Dastur. They presented many plays in the 1950s.

Aitzaz Hassan awarded Sitara-i-Shujat




On Sunday March 23, 2014, 110 civil awards, awarded to Pakistanis and foreign nationals, recognising their service to the country, including 35 pride of performance awards.
A Sitara-i-Shujat is being bestowed upon Aitzaz Hassan Bangash for tackling a suicide bomber before sacrificing himself to save his schoolmates.

Sikandar Sanam

Sikandar Sanam (21 September 1960 – 5 November 2012) was a Pakistani stage artist, singer, actor and stand up comedian. In Pakistan, he was known as the artist who redefined the art of on-stage mimicry. Sikandar's father, the late Syed Abdul Sattar Shoqeen Jetpuri (a Gujarati poet), was a well known poet from Jetpur, India. Sanam credited his father as, versatile, talented and proficient who patronized him with his talent.

Career

Sanam started performing on-stage as a child artist and singer. He preferred acting over singing and decided to enter show business. He changed his name from Mohammad Sikandar to Sikandar Sanam (Sanam meaning beloved in Urdu).

Shakeeb Jalali

Shakeeb Jalali (Urdu: شکیب جلالی‎) (October 1, 1934 – November 12, 1966) was a Pakistani Urdu poet.



Shakeb Jalali's real name was Syed Hassan Rizvi. His ancestors were from a small town, Saddat Jalali, near Aligarh, India. Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi says that Jalali was born on October 1, 1934, but his wife Syeda Mohiddisa Khatoon gives his year of birth as 1935 or 1936.

Jalali was an only child. When he was ten years old, his mother died in an accident.
